Record of the Faithful 1881-1882

The Record of the Faithful a  'statistical record" and "complete directory" of Brethren churches, compiled by Howard Miller. It included information gathered by Miller as director of a special federal census on noncombatant and nonlitigant (law) denominations (1877-81). Concise data on congregations provided the dates of formation, number of meetinghouses, number of members, and names and status of ministers. With a few exceptions, Miller was unable to provide details on the divisions in the church then occurring. He included an essay on church polity and material on Brethren sponsored schools, publications, missions, and charities. The one-hundred page book contains the most complete and accessible statistical information available on Brethren congregations for the latter half of the 19th century.
