Falling Spring Church (Hades) (1866-)
Christian Family Companion Oct 23, 1866 page 335 Vol. II No. 42 The church at Antietam Brother Holsinger: - Having a little leisure, I will write you an item concerning Church here having (as I suppose you have heard are this) disposed of the long existing difficulty, by the help of God, and our dear brethren, I hope too to the satisfaction of all concerned. On the 19th of Sept., the old Antietam branch wad formed into two congregations. The territory being large, and members numbering near five hundred, it was thought for good to divide; and by almost united consent of the Church, and the help of the committee with us it was done. The arm to which we have fallen retains the primitive name, (Antietam.) The other I understand is to be called the Fallingspring. the speakers that fall to our arm are five in number, viz., Jacob Price, Joseph E. Rohrer, Daniel Holsinger, Jacob F. Oller, and Daniel F. Good. Also six deacons, viz.: Jacob Price, (of Jacob), John Stoner, Jacob Holsinger, Wm. Shilling, Jacob Friendly, and Benjamin E. Price. Our arm embraces Prices’, Welty’s, and Snowberger’s meetinghouses. We have organized, and as we are about to begin a new sphere of operation, by the help of God and the prayers of our brethren and sisters we expect to move onward, and upward. Since Spring some ten have been added to the Church by baptism. And by way of encouragement to our arm the good Lord seems to have breathed into the hearts of some, the propriety of doing the Lord’s service – to swell Zion’s boundaries. We intend holding a communion on the 17th inst, if the Lord is willing. – That the word of the Lord may have free course and souls be converted to God, pray for us and all who love the Lord Jesus. D. Christian Family Companion April 22, 1872 p 270 Vol. VIII No. 17 Waynesboro, Pa. March 26, 1872 Beloved Brother in the Lord” – We are all well at present, and the brethren and sisters are generally well, as far as I know. Brother Daniel Holsinger intends to leave us, the Lord willing, for Iowa, on the 2d of April. Last Sunday he preached in the Antietam Meeting House of the last time. He said this is going to be the last time you are to hear my voice at this place, and when he said so, there were many wet eyes. The church does not like to see him leave. His services would be wanted here. By the request of some of my brethren I will give you a statement of our church since divided. The congregation was subdivided on the 19th of September, 1866, and since we have received into the church by Baptism 123; and by letter of recommendation 20; lost by death 34; moved away 39; three then returned back again. Expelled 19; restored 4. And at this time we have 329 members; of brethren 107, and of sister 223. Jacob Snowberger
