Powells Valley Church (1884 - ?) The Gospel Messenger Oct. 24, 1884 page 676From Oregon Dear Messenger: - I left my home at Macleay Co., Oregon, the 25th of September, en route for eastern Washington Territory, and since then have been holding meetings in Multnomah and Clackamas counties, Oregon, with marked attention. On last Saturday, Sept. 27th, we had a council meeting at the residence of brother Joseph Herney, in Powell’s valley, twelve miles east of Portland. There are sixteen members residing within a reasonable distance from brother Heiney’s, most of them in Multnomah county, five in Clackamas county. By the consent of the brethren at a council meeting at Salem, Sept. 13, and now also by the consent of them members of the above named counties, we formed a new organization, now known as the Powell’s Valley Church. It is under the elders of the Salem Church. At said council, a choice was held for deacon, and the lot fell on our dear brethren, Joseph Royer, whose post-office address is Damascus, Clackamas Co., Oregon. May the Lord bless the dear brother and his wife, and help them to be faithful in their calling. My the Lord bless all the members of the Powell’s Valley church. May they be faithful and let their lights shine. As yet they have no minister, but two deacons. The Lord willing, I expect to take the train to-morrow at East Portland, for Cheney, Washington Territory thence to Medical Lake, and hold some meetings there. Brethren, pray for me. David Brower Portland, Oregon
