Pleasant Plains Church (1894 - )
The Gospel Messenger Sterling, Kans. – June 3 wife and I started to visit some of the members in Indian Territory, or New Oklahoma, and to be present at an organization of a church, which took effect on the 6th. Elders present were G. Studabaker and F. Bradley. All business that is necessary to organize was transacted with the best of feeling. Bro. W. Bosserman was elected to the ministry. Brethren P. S. Hartman, Ginder and Beard are the deacons, Bro. D. A. Gordon, Treasurer, sister Hattie Hartman and Sarah Beard, solicitors and Bro. W. Hartman, Clerk. Name of the church, Pleasant Plains. Bro. G. Studabaker has charge of the church. They expect, the Lord willing, to hold their first feast August 3 with a series of meetings in connection with feast. While the brethren were there they preached seven sermons which were gladly received. We predict a bright future for this little church, for they organized with forty loyal members. Ay God’s richest blessing be with them. – L. E. Fahrney, June. 20.
The Gospel Messenger Oct. 29, 1889 page 683-684 Vol. 36 No. 43 From the Slate Creek Church, Kans Sept 14 I arrived at Arkansas City. Bro W. B. Sell commenced a series of meeting the same day in the Silver Creek church. I joined him the next day and assisted him in preaching services until Wednesday night following. The attendance was fair and the attention very good. Sept. 22 I board the train for Pond Creek, Okla. Next day I was taken third miles south and west near Koroma post-office, to the home of Bro. W. P. Bosserman, minister in the Pleasant Plains church, Okla. Here I held meeting in the schoolhouse the same evening. Sept. 24 Bro. Bosserman conveyed me to the home of Bro. Hartman, were the Brethren had erected a commodious tent or tabernacle, forty by sixty feet. Here I commenced a series of meetings the same evening and continued until Oct. 2. Oct. 1 a council was held, Eld J. Hendricks, of Hoyle, being present. The territory of this church being large, the members had under advisement the propriety of dividing the territory, which was done. This division left the east district with only one officer, -- Bro. Bosserman, a minister in the second degree. This church, in order to complete her organization, decided to elect Bro. Aaron Diller, minister; brethren Samuel Stephenson and John Cupp, deacons. These officers, with their wives, were duly installed the same day. Bro. Samuel Stephenson was chosen treasurer and Sister Ethel (Lovie) Stephenson secretary. This new organization was name Salt Plains church. At 5 P. M. the same day examination services were held and in the evening about seventy-five members surrounded the Lord’s Table to celebrate the ordinances usual on such occasion. Several visiting ministers were present. On Sunday morning a pleasant children’s meeting was enjoyed by all present. At 11 A. M. there was preaching by the writer. Next morning I boarded the early train for home. John Wise Oct. 8
