Idaho Falls Church (1904 - 09)
The Gospel Messenger Aug. 13, 1904 page 528, From Idaho Falls, Idaho Sunday evening, July 31, our little band of thirteen members convened to arrange for our organization. We decided to have our organization Sept. 15, thus giving those in the East who contemplate visiting the West an opportunity of being present, as it will be the week after the first excursion in September. All will be kindly welcomed. As we have no elder among our number, it will necessitate our securing the services of someone; therefore we will be very gold id any elder contemplating visiting the West will drop us a few lines that we can arrange accordingly. We are all new beginners and desire to save all expense we can, so that we may be able to erect a church building. If the same spirit of love and esteem of each other that was manifested in our first meeting, as a body of members, remains, we shall have a pleasant and happy church home in our valley. I would also state to those of our members desiring to teach school that there is a good opportunity for them, as our county was thirty-five teachers short last year. Wages are much better than in the East. Several are here who came a few years ago as teachers and now have homes of their own. Myrta Leavell Idaho Falls, Idaho, Aug. 1
The Gospel Messenger Oct. 8, 1904 page 656 ORGANIZATION OF THE FIRST BRETHREN CHURCH IN THE SNAKE RIVER VALLEY, IDAHO. A very happy and impressive service was that of the organization of the first Brethren church in the Snake River Valley. Though we, a few months ago, were strangers locating here from different parts of our nation, there was a grand spirit of love overshadowing us as was manifested during our meeting. Sept. 15 will ever be a memorable day in the minds of the eleven charter members of the "Idaho Palls church." With two visiting members, one of whom will soon be located with us with his family. and Bro, J. U. G. Stiverson presiding, we proceeded to elect all church officers. There being no deacons among our number. Bro. Noah Countryman and wife and Bro. Win. Sutter and wife were called and installed into that office. Bro. Stiverson was selected as our elder for one year. We decided to hold our first love feast Jan. 7, 1905. Bro. Stiverson gave us three splendid sermons while with us, one being in town. Myrta Leavell Idaho Falls, Idaho, Sept. 26.
