Long Beach: First

(1907-)

Long Beach. —Feb. 17. at 2:30 P. M., according to previous arrangements. Eld. Wm. Trostle, of Pasadena, and Eld. Barklow, of Covina, came here to effect an organization of the members living in this city. Twenty-three resident members organized themselves as the First Brethren church, of Long Beach, by electing Bro. Win. Trostle as elder, and all necessary officers needed to carry on the Lord's work in the above body. There are a number of visiting members here for the winter. They are a great help, and we earnestly desire our members, while visiting on the coast, to be with us and aid us in the Master's work. We have rented a neat chapel on the corner of Bishop and Heremosa streets (near Redondo car line) in which regular services are conducted by the ministers living here as follows: Sunday school at 10 A. M.; preaching at 11 A. M. and 7:30 P. M. The district mission board is to select and secure permanent workers for this place. We feel encouraged with the present outlook, as our services were well attended; considering the great disadvantage we labored under and we hope that in the future we will be able to do more and better work. This is the first organized church of the Brethren on any of the beach lands of Southern California. Pray for us. —J. M. Shively, 1219 E. Second St, Long Beach, Cal., Feb. 20
